Replacing a built-in refrigerator sounds simple enough - until you're actually in it. The fit has to be exact, the cabinetry surround needs to line up cleanly, and the finish has to look like it was always meant to be there. That's exactly the kind of job we just wrapped up in Johnston.

This was a 42-inch Sub-Zero replacement in a kitchen with custom wood cabinetry. Built-ins like this don't leave much room for error. The opening is fixed, the trim has to sit flush, and the unit itself needs to be level and properly secured before anything else. We've done enough of these to know where things can go sideways fast - and how to keep that from happening.

Sub-Zero appliances are a different animal compared to your standard freestanding fridge. The way they're built into the cabinetry, the grille work at the top, the door alignment - all of it has to be dialed in. A loose hinge or a unit that's slightly off-level will show immediately in a kitchen like this. We take our time on the details because that's what makes the difference between an installation that looks right and one that actually is right.

What we ended up with is a clean, flush install that works with the kitchen rather than against it. The stainless front sits right where it should, the cabinetry panels frame it properly, and the whole thing looks like it belongs. That's the goal on every job like this.
